Who We Are
Gottschalk Music Center has been at this Modesto location since 1951. In July 2011, the store opened under new management. Through the devoted assistance of Ernie Bucio, the new owners are Jan Leer, Karen Bucio, and Nicky Richardson. Our first year was one unbelievable adventure. We were fortunate to have former owner, C.K. Gottschalk, and a fine staff that has worked at the store many years, still with us. The focus of the business continues to be the support of music education and helping students get started on a rewarding journey that will hopefully be enjoyed through high school and the rest of their lives.
Behind the scenes
Today we offer the same quality service and musical instruments. The focus of the business remains to support music education and helping students get started on a rewarding journey that will hopefully be enjoyed through high school and the rest of their lives.

Gottschalk Music Center opened at the location of 133 Burney Street in Modesto, California. The business was run by 3 ladies and store occupied the size of one office. Over the years, the store has expanded to include a large band room, recital hall, private lesson areas, repair department, and a larger sales floor to better service our customers.
Motivated by working with the great Frank Mancini, The Gottschalk Family migrated from Michigan to California. Gottschalk secured an exclusive franchise from Conn-Selmer to sell their instruments in California, before leaving Michigan. Gottschalk Music Center opened in 1951 inside the Gilbert Roach Piano Company at 1617 J Street. The Center soon needed more space and was moved to it’s current location at 133 Burney Street in Modesto.
Created from his love of music, John Gottschalk Sr. operated a music store out of his family room in Michigan.
